Performance is great, but what about Purpose?
In the world of sports, it can be very easy to place our identity in our performance. Our performance determines whether we are starting or on the bench, but the reality is that performance is a very unstable foundation to base our lives upon. What happens when a slump occurs, or even worse, an injury sets us back? If we’re reliant on performance for joy, we are going to get tossed around in this life and never be content, but if we want to have peace and a much more fulfilling life, we must lean into purpose, not performance. Purpose is something that God has set out for us, and as long as we are on this earth, he has a purpose for us, even when we can’t see what that purpose is. Performance is a good thing and something that we should strive for, but we want to encourage you to lean into your purpose, not just your performance. We want to strongly encourage you to build your life on a solid and firm foundation, and to place your identity in and build your life on the rock — Jesus Christ.

We chose this verse because we want to remind athletes to praise God in the ups and downs because it is only by the grace of God that they have the ability to play the games that they love. We hope and pray that players will remember why they play and for whom they play.
